Iolando Spinola

I am a Senior Program Manager at Walk Massachusetts, where I lead efforts to advance equitable pedestrian mobility and walkability throughout the state. As an advocate for inclusive, community-centered planning, I enjoy collaborating with government agencies, community groups, and partners to improve transportation options and empower local leaders. My professional background spans roles in community engagement with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, service learning at Bentley University, and youth mentorship in organizations such as Crossroads and Citizen Schools.

I have had the privilege of serving on the Old Colony Planning Council for the past two years—my first as the At-large Delegate and currently in my second year as the Delegate for the City of Brockton. I also chair OCPC’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Subcommittee, working alongside colleagues to ensure our initiatives reflect the needs and voices of all residents. In addition, I serve on Brockton’s Planning Board, the Board of Directors for Friends and Mentors (FAM) and Brockton Interfaith Community (BIC). What I find most valuable about serving the Council is the chance to work together toward a better, more connected region. I am grateful for the opportunity to help elevate OCPC’s mission and to contribute to collective solutions that benefit all communities in our area. As we look forward, I am particularly interested in advancing equitable development and ensuring our region’s decision-making centers the diversity and needs of its people.

On a personal note, I have been a proud Brockton resident for over 32 years. I immigrated to the United States at the age of four from the Cape Verdean Islands and attended Brockton Public Schools (the Davis School, South Middle School, and Brockton High School). My academic journey continued at Bridgewater State University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, followed by a Master of Education in Community Engagement from Merrimack College. I am grateful to share life in Brockton with my wife, Katie—an inspiring mother, devoted social worker, and my best friend—and our three wonderful children, Leo, Juliet, and Sofia.
