RECOMMENDATIONS CRITICAL TO PROMOTE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Master Plan

Consider updating the community’s Comprehensive Plan or Master Plan generally 5-7 yr life span. Those communities that do not have a plan should consider developing one.  A Master Plan is a blueprint or vision on how a community wants to proceed with managing and planning for growth and development under zoning, land use, housing, environment, open space, economic development, transportation, and capital facilities etc.

Economic Development Plan

Consider updating or developing an Economic Development Plan or Strategy. Generally, the economic development plan stems from the economic development section of a master plan which is a broader view of what a community vision may be for economic development. The Economic Development is more specific and targeted with goals and objectives consistent with the MP but drills down on SWOT and includes workforce, employment, unemployment, industry sector, wages, strategies, projects, funding resources, recommendations, next steps, and action items.

Update Priority Development Sites (PDS)

identify under SCR – Review and update local priority economic development sites identified under SCR process in 2010. Review master plan and economic development plan or strategy for consistency with priorities, goals, and objectives.
