Plymouth County Food System Action Planning

Upcoming Meetings and Events

What We’re Doing

Old Colony Planning Council, in partnership with Plymouth County and the Marion Institute, is leading a regional effort to strengthen the local food system. We’re collaborating with municipalities, businesses, other organizations, and residents to gain a deeper understanding of the region’s food-related challenges and develop a comprehensive plan to address them. Throughout this project, which runs through June 2026, we are

  • Collaborating with a Community Advisory Board (CAB) to conduct a Plymouth County-wide food system assessment using the Community and Agriculture Resilience Audit Tool (CARAT)
  • Identifying gaps and opportunities to improve local food production, processing, distribution, access, waste, and policy
  • Hosting public conversations and listening sessions
  • Developing a practical Regional Food System Action Plan to guide future action and investment

To stay up to date, see meeting recordings, minutes, and materials from the Steering Committee and Community Advisory Board (CAB) below. Also, sign up for OCPC’s newsletter.

Why It Matters

Recent years have demonstrated the importance of having robust local systems in place. Whether due to supply chain issues, rising prices, or weather-related problems, many communities are seeking more effective ways to support local food systems. This project is designed to:

  • Support local farms and food producers
  • Help towns and organizations work better together
  • Prepare for future challenges through smart, local solutions

Ways to Get Involved

We’re looking for input from across the region—from farmers and small businesses to residents, health practitioners, and town officials. We welcome everyone’s involvement. Whether you’d like to join the project’s Steering Committee or Community Advisory Board (CAB), help host a local event, share your insights in a focus group or interview, or simply spread the word, there are many meaningful ways to take part. Ready to participate or have something to share? Get in touch today.

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee provides strategic guidance, oversight, and accountability. Members serve as thought partners to OCPC and its project team, ensuring that the project process and final deliverables are rooted in public input, guided by best practices, and aligned with local priorities.

Community Advisory Board (CAB)

The Community Advisory Board (CAB) is a working group. Members help identify strengths, challenges, and opportunities within the food system using the Community and Agriculture Resilience Audit Tool (CARAT). The CAB also helps promote collaboration across sectors and communities.
