Hanson Master Plan

Welcome to the Hanson Master Plan 2024-2034!

Hanson has passed their updated Master Plan!

Hanson worked with OCPC to update their Master Plan. Thank you to the Town of Hanson, Town Administrator Lisa Green, Hanson Town Planner Tony DeFrias, and Planning Administrator Kimberly Cunningham, the Planning Board, Conservation Commission, Select Board, Community Preservation Committee, town staff, and to all of the residents who contributed to this plan.

Mass General Law states that a plan “shall be a statement, through text, maps, illustrations, or other forms of communication that is designed to provide a basis for decision making regarding the long term physical development of the municipality…” A master plan is a guide for local public policy and guides projects and initiatives the town would like to work on over the next decade or longer. The creation or update of a master plan allows communities a chance to communicate between local government and residents to reflect on the towns strengths, weaknesses, and change over time. It allows residents to express their wants, needs, and hopes for the community.

Learn more about the general planning process here:

A master plan is a guide created between the town government and the community that uses data and public input to create a long-range plan that helps guide the town in decision making and policy creation.

Hanson already has a master plan, however, the average life of a plan is 10 years so its time for an update!

There are many ways to be involved in the master plan.

  • There will be three public events throughout the year for community members to attend.
  • A public survey will be created to gather input on many subjects.
  • You can reach out to your town planner or the project manager to share you ideas on the town or process.

The final document will show the nine required elements for the master plan. Each of these will be supported by data, images, maps, and most importantly, your input. This document will be a guide for the town to progress over the next decade by completing agreed upon action items.

All meetings will take place hybrid allowing an in person and virtual option for community members. If you cannot make either, key content will be posted to the website in the following days.

If you need special accommodations or translation services please contact project manager at rdugan@ocpcrpa.org. Please give advanced notice of at least one week to ensure we can have materials needed provided.
